Dental Emergencies in Chelmsford

In any emergency dental situation our dentists are ready to step in 24/7.

The Dental Abode’s Approach

As an established surgery for over 40 years, we know that time is of the essence when it comes to dental emergencies. At your earliest convenience, we’ll organise an emergency appointment, in some cases on the same day. Our helpful reception staff will ask you several questions to assess your emergency, whether you need to be seen by a general dentist or a specialist, and how soon you should come in.

But you won’t be on your own from there. We’ll also give you advice on how to cope until you receive treatment. Once you’re in our exceptional Chelmsford clinic, you’ll have access to the latest technology that can help with emergencies such as urgent root canal treatment, broken tooth repair or tooth extraction.

What Are Dental Emergencies?

Dental emergencies are unfortunate moments in time that require immediate medical attention to prevent serious injury or damage to the teeth, mouth, or jaw.

Our clinicians are skilled at handling all emergency dental services, including:

  • Toothaches that are severe or persist for more than a day or two
  • Pain or swelling in the mouth, face, or jaw
  • A tooth that has been knocked out (avulsed)
  • An abscess (a painful, pus-filled pocket that can form at the base of a tooth)

What Is Considered An Emergency?

When it comes to dentistry the urgent/emergency classifications are as follows:

  • Severe dental &/or facial pain that lasts for more than a day, or two, and is not controlled by over-the-counter analgesics (painkillers)
  • Dental and soft tissue acute infections (abscess – painful, pus-filled pocket that can form around the base of a tooth)
  • A tooth that has been completely knocked out (avulsed)
  • Bleeding 24 hours after an extraction – if this is uncontrollable bleeding you must go to A&E
  • Swelling in the mouth which is spreading to the eye or throat – if you are having trouble swallowing or breathing you must go to A&E
  • Trauma confined to the dental arches (palate etc) – you must go to A&E

At The Dental Abode, we reserve emergency appointments daily to cater for unexpected dental visits at short notice.

If you’re currently going through a dental emergency, it is important to seek treatment as soon as possible. The longer you wait, the greater the risk of permanent damage to your teeth or mouth.
